Original Artwork by Maya Cointreau
In addition to my art and craftwork, I also work from home as an herbalist making flower essences for people and herbal supplements for animals. I have a couple other websites that have more info about me -- you can see my full, varied resume at mayacointreau.com. I went to Colorado College and Smith College and studied art in both places. I have traveled extensively and grew up in a home with spiritual artwork acquired from around the globe by my mother (who also paints) on her work travels, so was influenced by just about every kind of art you can imagine. I began working with watercolors when I was 6, and have been painting ever since, transitioning to oils in highschool and then acrylics in my thirties as small children underfoot demanded. I was raised in a Roman Catholic/Buddhist environment, and am a Reiki Master and Shamanic Practitioner. I believe there is life and spirit in everything, the rocks, the trees, the air, the water -- everywhere.I paint for the sheer joy and release of it. Anyone who knows me will tell you I have a boundless drive to create, whether it's cooking, art, sewing, gardening... I'm always finding something to do! And lately, the gods and goddesses have been coming to me asking to be painted, so here we are :) My next few paintings are already dancing around finished in my head, a meso-american goddess named Water Panther painted with a jaguar and temple, and Isis' "Pyramid of the Peacock.""
I also often create custom portraits and paintings from photographs.
